tricking is for the birds

When Girl Alex & C Boy were little the IN thing was Boo at the Zoo but by the time Beach happened on the scene it was an over crowded jumble of crying kids in costumes.  So we made the switch to the smaller simpler Aviary trick-or-treat day.  This go around Joyful Liberation joined us or we joined them, all I know is it was someones fault for sure!

I suppose the devil was in the details because nowhere does it say there will be Trick-or-Treating this year...

It's okay we had a good time over the whining about The Great Candy Famine of 2011.
WITCH!

Here is where Boo busted in on a Field Trip of one of the local private schools.  She stepped right up, listened to the Host, then raised her hand and asked what the Host called a very good question...what I want to know was where did she learn to raise her hand?
This was the last treat of the event this sweet Little Ol Man asked us if he could tell us a Halloween story.  Creepy Sweet, but he has Beach's full attention!

strange new ideas about sundays

I'm sick & the cool autumn weather is matching me perfectly, roaring fire in the wood stove, blankets & socks, a fridge packed with home made Chicken Chili Verde & Tomato Soup, cozy cozy cozy!  (Actually, as I was writing this Colby came in to change into shorts.... whatever I'm cold!)

Donuts? What a great idea to go with pumpkin carving.

But while we were waiting for the dough to rise we picked up The Little House in the Big Woods to read.  Now back in chapter 2 there was the list of the days of the week with the corresponding chores list and while Beach listening to the details of the Long Rifle's daily maintenance she had a question: "What do THEY do again on Sundays?"
Oh that.  "Well they rest."
"But they bake like us?"
"No, they rest."
"But they hunt?"
"Nope no hunting."

Time to explain Protestant Sundays in America to a kid being raised by an Atheist Quaker and a die hard Agnostic. SO I explained a little...I was fair and honest and lead us straight to Salem.  (I love how homeschooling topics pop out of thin air right when you need them: Salem witch trials on the day before Halloween?!)
"But mom I thought the whole reason the Pilgrims came was religious freedom?"

"Funny how that works isn't it?" And I don't care what she says she is so hooked on history.
Happy Halloween!

you got mail

After the gymnastics meet the Ninjas attended a little party.  And when Boo rolled in back home it was late well past bed time but there was something waiting for her...a letter had come in the afternoon mail.
She carefully opened it and read slowly.
I wonder what is making her dad laugh?

Oh, that is funny!!!! Thanks Aunt T. You are the 'bet' Aunt too!

basket case

The quest for something RED for Halloween sent us shopping.  Along the way we found quite a few cute new-to-her things to wear like this Thanksgiving Power Suit and 2 new pairs of  funky shoes (so sorry Aunt T, more strange shoes).

...Really we were just killing a little time with the seasonal cleaning game 'Keep or Donate'.  We take all of Beach's clothing and sort them between 2 laundry baskets KEEP and DONATE.  Followed by a small fashion show for the new wardrobe pieces.  These may not be the best pic's but the fact Beach would agree was more than enough.  She is usually a little bit less flamboyant.

Cute short pants & a perfect shirt for winter.  Of course you can't pass on the polka dots.

RED! Well now that we have red let's see,
one more outfit to try on today. You might have already seen this one, the reason we were killing time.

How is it to stand with Thing 1 at beam waiting to salute Frankenstein & 2 witches?
2 Golds, 1 Silver, & 1 Bronze for events.  GOLD for the All Around!
Biggest deal of the day was one of those Golds was in Vault!  Not bad with one eye!!!!  No, at 8 years old the biggest deal of the day is getting to go home with your best Ninja buddy- medals? what medals?

Yep, KEEP basket.
