Boo-Whew

Last Sunday at the library we spied this lovely cardboard castle atop one of the bookcases.  We should make that Beach had said so we did.  We didn't announce it would be a haunted castle we just knew it would be.  All our castles are haunted!
What happened when the ghost asked for a whiskey at his local bar?
The bartender said "Sorry sir, we don't serve spirits here"!
Why did the cannibal live on his own?
He was fed up with other people!
Why does Dracula have no friends?
Because he's a pain in the neck!
Why did the witch go over the mountain?
Because she couldn't go under it!
What do demons have on holiday?
A devil of a time!
Why didn't the skeleton go to the party?
He had no body to go with!

(...sorry about the bad jokes I'm running a pretty good fever this morning!)

cartoons & castles

Beach's gymnastics schedule doesn't often allow for long Saturday mornings lounging in front of the tv watching cartoons but an out of state meet changed our schedule this week. We traded our Saturday morning practice for a Friday night one & our regular coaches for subs.

It is a good thing we don't have gym today poor Boo doing cartwheels on high beam fell & split the beam. It was bound to happen.  The sad-sweet part of it was as she fell on the beam she grabbed hold of it with all she had ending up upside down like a opossum, eyes closed, legs & arms wrapped so tight.  I know what she was thinking 'just don't fall off' as if not hitting the padded mats was a small victory.  She denied being injured despite the angry red lines running up her inner thighs.  The coach sent her for a drink and Boo without any one telling her to remounted the beam and nailed the next set of cartwheels.
She also failed to inform the guest coaches about her vision or lack of.  When I asked why she didn't warn them (at least for bars) she laughed, "I forgot."  "We need to know stuff like that," the coach said.  "Well, if it isn't bugging me it shouldn't be bugging you." She retorted.
But even Saturday mornings can't hold on forever...haunted cardboard castle construction on hold for a trip to dad's work with dad and then a birthday party in the park with good friends.
Beach frowned when I told her it was time to go,  "The ghosts can wait."
"No they can't mom, they are dying to get in."

voices from the land of yeti

"Beach, I have some items to pick up at the store, do you want me to wait to go when you are at gym or do you want to come along?"
                                                "Can I get something?"
"No, but you can read all the prices out loud."
                                                        "I'm listening."
"But you are going to have to be very patient while I look for what I need."
"Oh that's not possible.  You'd better not take me with you."
                                                             "Are you sure?"
"Don't kid yourself mom, if there isn't anything in it for me why would I be patient?
>huff< Honestly, mothers..."

giving is for the brids

Every year I give my kids a the means to give a gift to a charity.  For years we trucked blankets to Primary Children's Medical Center to the NICU a couple of years gifting toys to the Surgical Units and the Burn Center at the U.  But since Beach has been on board she moved us away from people to her passion: Animals.
In the spirit of Simple I needed to limit the gift to one.  So what will it be?  Dog food for the shelter, cat toys, perhaps cookies for the nurses at the ER Vet where Kilo died?

She picked feeding the little birds in her own backyard with these little ice-feeders.  I suppose we can afford to make more than one...

through the window today

A star for hope & longer days.
(Directions from hey what's for dinner mom?)
Something for mom & something for dad to go under the tree.

Frosty ornaments for the birds while mom reads.

A bit of math, Ranger Rick, building compound words, & silent reading.  Not bad for a short day.

cards of course

In an attempt to elude hauling out the Christmas decoration (which I promised to do) let's make Christmas Cards!
Back to pillaging the pile of old Mother Joneses for newsprint snowmen & stars.
Now we should send one to poor BJ who stopped in for what was supposed to be a visit and turned into a cup of coffee to go.  Straight back to the railroad with him!!  In my next life my best 'girlfriend' will not be a six-foot-something Railroader! Oh, who am I kidding I'd pick him again.
Dear BJ's Beautiful Sweet Wife,
Happy Holidays!
At least on the railroad he can't get lost.
Love,
M.O.B.
