doubting thomas takes a hike

“Are you sure they let people up there?”
“Why not, it is all gone, what are you going to do burn it again?  It is probably the safest place to let people hike now.”
“But are you sure, it seems to me if they are letting people up there then everybody would be up there.”

He is staring at me over his coffee trying to decide what to say to a woman who thinks that standing in the middle of a smoldering canyon in the late afternoon heat of a July day is so alluring the whole of the valley will call in sick as to not miss out. 

He decides saying nothing is best and kisses me on the head.
