zombie mom strikes back

Honestly got stuck for a moment in the bathroom this morning because my triceps are so sore I couldn't turn the knob.  Yes, I mean my triceps & not my forearm. That was before I headed out  for a workout.  I told Colby in passing I might only be walking, perhaps running, but no way was I hitting the mat today.  I worried my arms were too sore to hold plank, that lateral burpees could go to hell, up and overs aren't happening, & box jumps- yeah right!!.  I had to at least go out & try...and in 60 minutes I had finished the workout start to end full reps and full speed.
It's a mystery really, where does that power come from? Oh yeah, it is taken from my brain.  I have near zero cognitive powers left.  TMI: last night in the hot tub I snuggled up to the Birthday Boy who had spent literally all of HIS day under my car replacing a CV boot & some linkage thing that makes Little Red go vroom-vroom.  I whispered in his ear I wish I had a snorkel which caused him to burst out laughing.  Not the response I was looking for but as I thought it over I realized the flaw in my line of thought (if you missed it I'm not explaining it, putting it in here is bad enough!).
So what am I doing all this for? Why am I kicking the shit out of myself (excuse the French) 6 days a week? Then pretending I can resume normal function as a farming-home-educator-housewife? (wait?!?! when did I marry a house?) I am doing it for one giant selfish reason.  It has nothing to do with good health (sorry) or the way I look in jeans (whatever).  It might start as one of those but my attention span is way too short to see either of those pay off.  I am in it for instant gratification of beating myself.  Telling yourself you can't then proving yourself wrong, may not be the way the experts tell you to go about getting it done. In fact, often "can't" is labeled a dirty word but for me "can't" is the waving red flag of a perfect challenge.  Yesterday's successes or failures are tomorrows opportunities.  Girl at play, play Girl, play!

drawing our happy lines and standing behind them

I am probably too tired to express what I want to say properly but I'm going to try.  Somewhere between writing the words 'I honestly didn't know' what she would decide and hitting publish I realized that wasn't true.  I knew.

Out of all of Beach's gym shots this has always been my favorite one.  It has nothing to do with form or the golds that followed.  It is about the look on her coaches face.  It is about investment in the whole person not just the part of the person doing the sport.  What I told the Owner yesterday over the phone is how much we can now appreciate the philosophy & coaching style of her gym.  Being outsiders in this world I never thought it possible to ignore that these athletes are children.
Beach popped up this morning and announced she is staying at GTC.
Of course she is...she deserves only the best.  We needed to know that for ourselves.
And this is far from an apology for going out into the Unknowns. I am so very glad we did. It answered questions I have had for a long time.  I actually wish we would have done it sooner.  I would tell any parent who asks me to go see for themselves what is out there.
But we are accepting 'I told you so's' especially if her coaches wish to.
And I keep my fingers crosses about class sizes, about the possibility of a day class, about keeping our current coaches near us.  See you on the group W bench tonight.

rx for afternoon zombie mom-mom

I found a new happy spot (aka a workout) but I think there is a small issue I need to fix.  The workout is called Cross-Running (it goes by other names too) and the idea is to mix the cardio of running with the ass kicking cardio/strength training of crossfit into one deadly package.  Oh do I love it!  It works like this: run 4 minutes balls out, 1 minute lateral burpees, run 4 minutes balls out, 1 minute up & overs….you get the idea repeat 10 times with the most ruthless moves one can think to do, cool down, collapse~ happy, happy, joy, joy!
Okay so far so good what isn’t so good is at 1:15 today I was crashed out face down in a spilled cup of coffee in my bed, yes literally sleeping in a puddle.  I have been complaining about this afternoon crash ever since I began (& how it proves the effectiveness of the workout).  It's funny there is an A circuit & a B one, the crash only occurs on A days and yet the exercises in each set are comparable to each other.  Suppose it is time to consult (3 weeks later...) the Big Dr. Dog because this is a drug I can't walk away from, way too much fun to stop here!!!

honestly bat-ship crazy today

Because things on the farm were getting too normal today Crazy Jim's goat escaped.  Because that isn't strange enough to be in the middle of phone call & have to say: oh please excuse me my child who is on Rollerblades seems to be wrestling the neighbors escaped goat in the middle of 10th west, might I call you right back? The crazy Chinese Lady had to get involved.  She came running out into the street screaming "Is that you goat?! Is that you goat?! It all over the place!"
"No, not our goat remember we are the ones with chickens.  We sold you eggs."
"Yeah," she looks me over, that is the me now holding a goat by its butt and its collar,  "Why your eggs too many colors?"...oh, please Lady don't start this again!
"When Colby gets home I will send him over to explain it to you until then I have a goat to deal with."
"Oh okay, yeah too many colors, you eggs... you goat all over the place, not good for eggs, turn them colors..."
And of course Crazy Jim is at home but won't answer his door.

So we are goat sitting.
Yes Ginger, as it turns out I do love you more than I love a goat.

nap, nap, ah-forget it!

I didn't sleep so great last night, it happens from time to time.  I figured I could catch a quick nap.  Yep. Figured wrong.  Beach climbed into bed with me and started messing around.  "Hey, let's play the game were we listen to the noises in the neighborhood and say what we hear." I suggested hoping to get her to settle down.  "Okay mom." Pause. "Chicken." Pause. "Chicken." Pause. "Chicken." Pause. "Chicken." Pause. "Chicken." Pause. "Chicken."
Never mind get out of my room!
